Doona

Doona is the brand known overseas for gear that changes shape without leaving a second piece behind. In Australia it arrives as the Liki Trike, a folding trike you push like a pram when your toddler stops pedalling and that packs down small enough to actually take with you.

A Design Studio Built Around One Problem

Doona is an Israeli company with a narrow catalogue and a single obsession, which is the fold. Its engineering goes into mechanisms rather than into range, and each product it releases is a variation on the same question: how do you carry this thing once your child is finished with it.

The car seat that made the brand's name is not sold in Australia, so here the thinking turns up at a later stage of childhood instead. The Liki Trike closes to roughly the size of a small suitcase and opens again in one movement, which is the same trick applied to a different year of parenting.

What This Trike Does That Most Trikes Cannot

Most trikes live in the garage because they will not go in a boot, up a stairwell or into a hallway. The Liki folds flat in a few seconds with the pedals and seat tucked in, which is what turns it from a backyard toy into something that comes on the outing with you.

It also starts well before your child can pedal. A parent handle steers from behind while they sit and ride, footrests hold their legs clear of the wheels, and the pedals come into play once their legs reach, so one frame covers the stretch from around ten months to three years.

Three Ways You Will Use a Liki Trike

• In place of a pram: for the months when a toddler refuses the pram but cannot walk the distance, it sits between ourprams and the rest of thescooters and trikes range.

• For travel: folded it fits a boot or a hold, so it belongs with the rest of yourtravel gear rather than staying home. The travel bag is worth having if it is going on a plane.

• For everyday outings: the rain cover handles a wet morning and the storage bag hangs off the handle for whatever you would otherwise be carrying, which puts it alongside the widertoddler essentials range.

The accessories are sold separately rather than bundled, so you can start with the trike and add the pieces once you know how you are using it.
