What a Belly Bar Actually Does

A bumper bar sits across the front of the pram seat, and its job is mostly about your child's confidence. Toddlers who've worked out they can lean forward tend to do it constantly, and having something to grip settles them into the seat rather than straining against the harness. It's a handhold, a place to hang a favourite toy, and a bit of reassurance on a bumpy footpath.

To be clear about what it isn't, a belly bar isn't a restraint and doesn't replace the harness, which still does the work of keeping your child secure. Think of it as the thing that makes them happy to stay seated, while the harness is the thing that keeps them safe.

Snack Trays and the Long Walk Home
