Your spring and summer outing checklist
Keep a few essentials ready so you can head out when the opportunity comes:
- A pram or carrier suited to your baby and the outing.
- A sunhat, protective clothing and a plan for shade.
- Nappies, wipes, a change mat and spare clothes.
- Your usual feeding essentials.
-A picnic rug for park stops.
- A favourite toy or teether.
- Water for you and age-appropriate drinks and snacks for your child.
- A chair or portable play space if it suits your baby’s stage and your plans.
Start with a simple stroll
You don’t need a full day planned to enjoy time outside. A walk around the neighbourhood, a coffee stop or a wander along a shaded path is a great place to start.
If park paths and uneven footpaths are part of your routine, look for a pram with good suspension, wheels suited to the terrain and enough storage for your everyday essentials. An adjustable canopy is handy too, especially when the direction of the sun changes along your route.
The Thule Urban Glide 3 is an option for families who enjoy longer walks and exploring beyond smooth pavements. Its large air-filled tyres, suspension and roomy covered basket make it a practical companion for outdoor outings. For newborn walks, explore the Thule Urban Glide 3 Stroller + Bassinet Bundle.
Another option to compare is the UPPAbaby RIDGE V2, an all-terrain pram with an expandable UPF 50+ canopy and covered storage basket.
Choose the configuration that suits your baby’s age and stage. If you’re planning to jog, follow the manufacturer’s separate guidance on when your child is ready.
Keep baby close with a carrier
For a stroll through the markets, a short walk or an outing with an older sibling, a baby carrier can be a handy alternative to the pram.
In warmer weather, breathable fabrics are worth considering. The Ergobaby Omni Deluxe All-In-One Mesh Baby Carrier features SoftFlex Mesh for airflow, with storage areas for those small essentials you like to keep within reach.
You can also compare the BabyBjorn Carrier Harmony Mesh in our baby carrier collection.
Take time to get the fit right for both of you, check the carrier’s minimum weight and carrying-position requirements, and keep baby’s face visible and chin clear of their chest. Breathable fabric is useful, but you’ll still need to watch how warm you and baby feel and take breaks when needed.
Take the scenic route with a Thule Sapling
If your family loves a nature walk, a hiking carrier gives you another way to explore together once your child is ready.
The Thule Sapling Child Carrier is designed for carrying your little adventurer on your back, making it an option for walks where a pram would be less practical. Start with a short, easy route and leave plenty of time for breaks and a picnic stop.
A hiking carrier is for a later stage than a newborn carrier. Check the manufacturer’s requirements for independent sitting, head control, minimum weight and maximum load before use.
Make a little picnic of it
Sometimes the best outing is a shady patch of grass, a few snacks and nowhere else to be.
An IZIMINI picnic rug gives the family somewhere to gather for feeds, cuddles and play. Pop it in the car with your nappy bag and you’re ready for an impromptu park stop or a relaxed afternoon in the backyard.
For older babies who are ready for seated mealtimes, the IZIMINI Baby Chair V2 folds into a matching carry bag and includes a removable tray. It’s a practical addition for picnics, family barbecues and weekends away.
The chair is listed for ages six months to three years, up to 15kg. Follow the instructions and your baby’s developmental readiness, use the harness and supervise them throughout.
And if you love a coordinated picnic setup, explore the IZIMINI collection for matching prints across rugs, chairs, hats and more.
Bring baby to the table
Outdoor lunches, café stops and barbecues are easier when you have a familiar seat for your little one.
The Hannie Portable High Chair is a compact option that attaches to suitable dining chairs and converts from a baby high chair to a booster seat. It folds down for travel and includes a protective tote bag, making it handy for visits to friends, weekends away and meals out.
It is listed for children from six months to five years, up to 25kg. Check your child’s readiness and the supporting chair’s suitability, secure it according to the instructions and always use the harness.
Create a portable play space
Once your baby is on the move, somewhere to play can be a welcome addition to the picnic setup.
The IZIMINI PlayPop is a pop-up play space for children aged six to 24 months. It combines UPF 50+ fabric with mesh ventilation and packs into a carry bag for trips to the park, beach or campsite.
Bring along a couple of favourite toys and let your little one enjoy some supervised play while you settle in beside them. Follow the setup instructions, including securing it outdoors with the supplied stakes, sand pegs and sand pockets.
The PlayPop is designed for play and is not intended for sleep. Keep baby supervised and check their comfort regularly, even when they’re in the shade.

Pack for sunny days
A sunhat deserves a regular spot in the nappy bag through spring and summer.
For everyday outings, the Toshi Sunhat OZ combines a broad brim with cotton fabric and a UPF 50+ rating. For days around the water, the Toshi Swim Sunhat offers quick-drying fabric and a broad, structured brim.
The IZIMINI Off-White Mini Umbrella is another accessory to explore for adding shade to your outdoor setup. Check attachment suitability and secure it according to the instructions.
Plan around the UV forecast as well as the temperature. Keep babies under 12 months out of direct sunlight, choose shaded spots and use protective clothing and a suitable hat. Shade and UPF-rated products work best as part of your overall sun-protection routine.
Keep air flowing around the pram and never drape a blanket or muslin over it to block the sun.
Plan a bike ride when your little one is ready
For families who love cycling, a child bike seat opens up another way to explore together once your little passenger is ready.
Baby Village’s Thule bike seat range includes front-mounted and rear-mounted options. The Thule Yepp Nexxt 2 Mini sits at the front of the bike and features a padded harness, adjustable footrests and a little handlebar for your child to hold.
It is designed for children from nine months to three years, up to 15kg, with Thule advising consultation with a paediatrician for children under one year.
Before heading out, check your child’s readiness, the seat’s age and weight requirements and compatibility with your bike. Use correctly fitted helmets for both rider and child, and start with a short, easy ride.
Let little legs join the adventure
As your baby grows into a busy toddler, outdoor outings take on a whole new pace. Trikes, ride-ons and scooters give little ones another reason to head outside - and can keep older siblings happily involved too.
The Globber Explorer Trike 4 in 1 grows through parent-guided trike, training trike and balance-bike stages. Its infant trike mode starts from 10 months, with later configurations suited to older toddlers and children. It’s an option for families who want to begin by pushing their little passenger and gradually give them more independence.
For toddlers aged 12–36 months, the Globber Learning Trike 2in1 PLUS converts between a pedal trike and a pedal-free walking bike.
For more ways to roll, browse our scooters, trikes and ride-on options, including Scoot & Ride models that combine seated riding and scooting as children grow.
Choose the model and configuration for your child’s age and ability, use a correctly fitted helmet and supervise play on a level surface away from traffic, steps and water.
