Benefits of Babywearing | Q&A with Ergobaby

By Baby Village on 22 September 2018

🌟 Head over to our Facebook page for your chance to WIN an Ergobaby Omni 360 Carrier Starry Skies for you & a friend!^ 🌟

I was lucky enough to sit down with Anita Lincoln-Lomax, Director of Ergobaby Australia & New Zealand to have a chat about all things babywearing including their latest products the Omni 360 Carrier and the lightweight Aura Wrap. 🎥 Check out the video below for full details.

The key things I took away from my chat with Anita were;
  • First and foremost, babywearing gives parents back the ability to use both hands! Which as a new Mum I'm going to tell you I seriously took for granted beforehand! For example, you can't really push a pram and a shopping trolley around the supermarket, nor can you take a pram with your newborn up stairs - who knew?!
  • Babywearing aids both the physical and emotional development for babies; being safely and securely attached to their carer in an upright position puts baby in a "calm state of alert" which allows them to start exploring the world around them! And, I learnt that when Bub has skin-to-skin contact with Mum their body temperature is regulated by ours!
  • All Ergobaby Carriers are endorsed by the Chiropractic Association of Australia in part because of the way it assists with the weight distribution when carrying your Baby; it enables your body to  "return to normal" after pregnancy. For me personally the carrier gave me the freedom to still get out with Bub after my caesarean.
  • If budget is no obstacle for you, it's ideal to use both a wrap and a carrier, as while they're both suitable from newborn, they offer different benefits. I personally found the wrap was lovely to wear around the house, but preferred the structure of the carrier when we headed out the door!
  • Being able to "wear" your baby during your fourth trimester (i.e. the first 3 months of Bub's life) offers a fantastic "womb to world" transition for your littlest love. After birth I often found my hands drifted towards my stomach where my bump used to be, and when I had the wrap on there was something so comforting about finding Bub there!
  • Finally, Anita answered my question about "What to wear when babywearing?" by suggesting we treat the wrap or carrier as a layer of clothing itself; in summer take one off, in winter add one on; and don't be concerned about the mesh version being too cool, it is designed to be breathable and is really well suited to the temperate Australian climate.
